Vinegaroon - Whip Scorpion
Origin: Southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America.
Size: 2–3 inches (5–7.5 cm) body length, excluding tail.
Lifespan: Females - up to 20 years in captivity / Males 4 to 7 years
Lifestyle: Nocturnal and fossorial, living in burrows.
Appearance: Dark brown to black, with large pincers and a whip-like tail.
Temperament: Shy and reclusive. When threatened, sprays a vinegar-smelling chemical (acetic acid) as defense.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial with a secure lid; 4–6 inches of deep, moist substrate for burrowing.
Substrate: Moist soil, coconut fiber, or soil/sand mix.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: High (75–85%) with good ventilation. Provide a water dish.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, mealworms, and other insects every 1–2 weeks.
