Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens – Greenbottle Blue Tarantula
Origin: Native to the Paraguaná Peninsula, Venezuela.
Size: Medium species, 4.5–6 inches (11–15 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females: 12–15 years Males: 3–4 years
Lifestyle: Terrestrial but also heavy webber.
Creates thick sheet webs and tunnels above the ground.
Appearance: One of the most colorful tarantulas:
Metallic blue legs
Bright orange abdomen with red hairs
Green-blue carapace
Stays vibrant from juvenile to adult, unlike many other species.
Temperament: Generally skittish but not overly aggressive.
Can flick urticating hairs if threatened.
Very active and visible, making it an excellent display species.
Care & Habitat:
Comes from scrubland/desert-like environments.
Prefers warm, dry, and well-ventilated conditions.
Enclosure:
Terrestrial enclosure with plenty of anchor points (branches, cork, rocks) for webbing.
Not a burrower – focus on horizontal space over depth.
Substrate:
Keep dry with a shallow water dish.
Light layer of coco fiber, soil, or sand mix.
Do not over-moisten – this species dislikes damp conditions.
Interesting Note:
Famous for filling its enclosure with elaborate silk webs.
A hardy beginner-friendly species due to its adaptability and beauty.
