Origin: Central and Eastern Africa, including Angola, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique.
Size: 4.5–6 inches (11–15 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 12–15 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial but opportunistic; often creates extensive web tunnels and may burrow.
Appearance: Striking bright orange coloration covering the entire body and legs, with a characteristic starburst pattern on the carapace.
Temperament: Extremely defensive, very fast, and known for delivering a painful bite. Not recommended for beginners or handling.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with lots of floor space, deep substrate, a hide, and items (cork bark, branches, rocks) for heavy webbing.
Substrate: Dry soil, sand/soil mix, or coconut fiber; keep mostly dry.
Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C).
Humidity: 50–60%. Provide a water dish; avoid overly damp conditions.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other insects weekly; juveniles more often.
