Origin: Namibia, Southern Africa.
Size: 4.5–5.5 inches (11–14 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 10–12 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Fossorial; builds burrows and often spends most of its time underground.
Appearance: Brown to tan body with a distinct horn-like projection on the carapace, typical of Ceratogyrus species. The earthy coloration helps it blend with its desert habitat.
Temperament: Defensive and fast. Prefers to stay hidden in its burrow but may show a threat display if disturbed.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Fossorial setup with 6–8 inches of compact substrate and a starter burrow to encourage digging.
Substrate: Soil, sand/soil mix, or coconut fiber that supports stable burrows.
Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C).
Humidity: 50–60%, with most of the enclosure kept dry but a water dish provided.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other insects weekly; juveniles more often.
