Origin: West Africa — primarily Ghana, Togo, and surrounding regions.
Size: 4.5–5.5 inches (11–14 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 12–15 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Arboreal and secretive; constructs silken retreats in tree hollows and crevices.
Appearance: Pale tan to light brown body with mottled darker markings and distinct feather-like banding on the legs. Its camouflage makes it nearly invisible against tree bark.
Temperament: Extremely defensive, fast, and unpredictable. Known for sudden bursts of speed and a strong threat display. Not suitable for handling.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Arboreal setup with vertical space, cork bark tubes, and plenty of web anchor points. Provide excellent cross ventilation.
Substrate: Coconut fiber or soil mix to maintain moderate humidity.
Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish. Mist lightly to maintain balance but avoid stagnant, overly damp conditions.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
