Origin: Brazil, South America.
Size: 6–7 inches (15–18 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 12–15 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and opportunistic burrower; may create shallow burrows and web around its hide.
Appearance: A striking species with bold black and white banding on the legs, a dark carapace, and reddish to golden hairs on the abdomen. Its contrast makes it a standout display tarantula.
Temperament: Defensive and fast-moving. Will flick urticating hairs readily when disturbed. Not recommended for handling.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with plenty of floor space, a large hide, and 5–6 inches of substrate for burrowing.
Substrate: Moisture-retentive soil, coconut fiber, or a soil mix.
Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish and occasional misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, mealworms, and other large feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
