Origin: Brazil, South America (Bahia region).
Size: 8–9 inches (20–23 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 15+ years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and opportunistic burrower; may dig shallow burrows but often uses hides.
Appearance: One of the largest Lasiodora species, with a dark base color covered in reddish to scarlet hairs on the legs and abdomen, giving it a fiery, eye-catching look.
Temperament: Defensive and prone to flicking urticating hairs when threatened. Impressive display species but not suited for handling.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Very spacious terrestrial setup with lots of floor space, a large hide, and 5–6 inches of substrate for digging.
Substrate: Moisture-retentive soil, coconut fiber, or a soil mix.
Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).
Humidity: 70–80%, with a shallow water dish and occasional misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, mealworms, and other large feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
