Dolichothele diamantinensis – Brazilian Blue Dwarf Beauty
Origin: Brazil (Diamantina region).
Size: A true dwarf tarantula, only about 2.5–3 inches (6–8 cm) leg span at maturity.
Lifespan: Females - 10 to 12 years / Males - 2 to 3 years
Lifestyle: Terrestrial
Appearance: One of the most stunning dwarf species. Bright metallic blue legs, dark abdomen with red/orange hairs, and a greenish carapace. Extremely vibrant compared to its close relative D. minerium.
Temperament & Behavior: Very fast, defensive, and skittish—not recommended for beginners.
Prolific webber, often fills its enclosure with dense silk.
More likely to bolt and hide than attack.
Care in Captivity:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with cork bark and anchor points for webbing.
Substrate: Slightly moist, with a water dish available.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: 70–80%, with good airflow to prevent mold.
Diet: Small insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms.
