Origin: Middle East — found in Israel, Cyprus, Turkey, and surrounding regions.
Size: 4–5 inches (10–13 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 10–12 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Fossorial; creates deep burrows but may also adapt to hides in captivity.
Appearance: Dark olive to blackish body with subtle earthy tones and darker markings on the carapace and legs, giving it excellent camouflage in arid environments.
Temperament: Defensive and fast-moving. Will retreat into its burrow when possible but may show threat displays if provoked.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Fossorial setup with 6–8 inches of compact substrate and a secure hide.
Substrate: Soil, sand/soil mix, or coconut fiber that supports burrowing. Keep mostly dry.
Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C).
Humidity: 50–60%, with a water dish. Avoid overly damp conditions.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
