Origin: Nicaragua, Central America.
Size: 4.5–5.5 inches (11–14 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 15–20 years, males 4–6 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and fossorial, often found in self-dug burrows or natural retreats.
Appearance: Dark body with reddish setae on the abdomen, similar to T. vagans but generally smaller and more compact.
Temperament: Calm and hardy, though can flick urticating hairs when disturbed. Considered beginner-friendly but best kept as a display animal.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with hides and 5–6 inches of substrate for burrowing.
Substrate: Coconut fiber, topsoil, or a soil mix that holds humidity well.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish and occasional light misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and mealworms weekly; juveniles more often.
