Origin: Peru, South America.
Size: 4–5 inches (10–13 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 10–12 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and fossorial, often building burrows or using natural hides.
Appearance: Dark brown to black body with bluish tones on the legs and subtle striping, giving it the “blue zebra” name.
Temperament: Generally skittish but not overly aggressive. May show defensive postures and use urticating hairs if threatened.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with floor space, hides, and 4–5 inches of substrate for digging.
Substrate: Soil, coconut fiber, or a soil mix that retains some humidity.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish and occasional light misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and mealworms weekly; juveniles more often.
