Origin: Zimbabwe and surrounding regions of Southern Africa.
Size: 4.5–6 inches (11–15 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 10–12 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Fossorial; constructs deep burrows and spends much of its time underground.
Appearance: Brown to gray body with a prominent straight, upright horn on the carapace. Known as one of the most distinctive Ceratogyrus species because of its tall, sharp horn.
Temperament: Defensive and fast, typical of baboon tarantulas. Not recommended for handling but fascinating to observe.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Fossorial setup with 6–8 inches of compact substrate and a starter burrow.
Substrate: Soil, sand/soil mix, or coconut fiber that supports burrow stability.
Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C).
Humidity: 50–60%, with most of the enclosure dry and a water dish provided.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
