Origin: Brazil, South America.
Size: 7–8 inches (18–20 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 12–15 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and opportunistic burrower; often creates shallow retreats and webs around its hide.
Appearance: A large and striking tarantula with a dark body and bold white banding on the leg joints, giving it a highly contrasting appearance.
Temperament: Generally defensive and skittish. Readily flicks urticating hairs and may show threat displays when disturbed. Not recommended for handling.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Spacious terrestrial setup with floor space, a large hide, and 5–6 inches of substrate for digging.
Substrate: Moisture-retentive soil, coconut fiber, or a soil mix that holds burrows.
Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish and occasional misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, mealworms, and other large feeder insects weekly; juveniles more often.
