Origin: Brazil, South America — specifically the Chapada Diamantina region.
Size: 5–6 inches (12–15 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 12–15 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Terrestrial and opportunistic burrower; often creates shallow retreats with webbing.
Appearance: A stunning tarantula with a dark body and vibrant metallic-blue legs that shimmer under light. Young spiders may show duller tones that intensify with maturity.
Temperament: Generally skittish but not overly defensive. May kick urticating hairs if disturbed.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with 4–5 inches of substrate and a hide.
Substrate: Coconut fiber, soil, or a soil mix that retains some humidity.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: 65–75%, with a shallow water dish and occasional misting.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and mealworms weekly; juveniles more often.
