Avicularia avicularia M1 (Common Pink Toe Tarantula)
Origin: Northern South America – Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and Brazil.
Size: 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) leg span.
Lifespan: Females 10–12 years, males 3–4 years.
Lifestyle: Arboreal; builds silken retreats in trees, shrubs, and elevated spaces.
Appearance: The classic “Pink Toe” tarantula, with a dark body, greenish to bluish sheen on the carapace, and distinctive pink-tipped toes. Juveniles are typically more brightly colored, often showing lighter patterns.
Temperament: Generally calm but skittish and quick. Known to jump when startled and may use fecal spray as a defense. Handling is not recommended.
Care & Habitat:
Enclosure: Arboreal setup with vertical space, cork bark tubes, and climbing structures. Provide excellent cross ventilation to prevent stagnant air.
Substrate: Coconut fiber or soil mix to hold moderate humidity.
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C).
Humidity: 70–80%, with good airflow and a shallow water dish.
Diet: Crickets, roaches, and other insects weekly; juveniles more often.
